Everlasting Love

December 31, 2015 7:00 pm Published by Comments Off on Everlasting Love

Christ sent us out to all parts of the world with a new mandate: to love one another. But we also need to love one another in our own homes, and that's something that we can do well or not so well.  Love is the full tank of gas that takes us places, but if we're not adept at giving or receiving love---if we lack the words to express ourselves properly---we can be like a car that's running on fumes. Our new six-week sermon series "Everlasting Love" is about keeping our tank of love full by learning the various ways that love can be effectively shown and expressed. We're going to learn how to "speak" love. Based on the book, "The Five Languages of Love," by Dr. Gary Chapman, this series will help you improve all the relationships in your life.

"Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples."

It was the great wisdom of our early church fathers to set aside the four weeks before Christmas to prepare our celebration of Jesus' birth in the season we call Advent. The word advent means "arrival" or "coming" and our forebears in faith understood that every Christmas holds the wondrous possibility of Jesus being born again. Born in our lives, and born in our world. We celebrate this time by buying gifts for those we love, but the real gift is to give of ourselves. We can do that if we are open to the Holy Spirit. When we become who God wants us to be, we're no longer sending out gifts. We are the gift that is sent to deliver the hope of Christmas.

"As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them...."

The Call

God calls us all. He doesn’t limit Himself to a list of human-approved disciples. He’s liable to make even persecutors of the church true followers and extraordinary servants. We know this is true because it happened to Paul. Our new worship series tells the story of the Apostle Paul, whose witness continues to shape the lives of a third of the word’s population. This series is based on the book The Call by Adam Hamilton. Do you hear the call?
