Galilee Youth attended the reBOOT Youth Retreat over Martin Luther King weekend, January 18-20. reBOOT takes place in the mountains of Maryland at Skycroft Retreat Center. It’s a weekend away, a chance to unplug from everything, spend time with friends, and give God some undivided attention.
This year, we had 22 middle and high school youth attending, along with four adult chaperones—Bri and Grant Jones, Chris Makowski, and myself.
There was a full schedule each day, starting as early as you like! “Leadership Lab” opened at 6:30 in the morning for the truly committed. Then through worship and small group discussion, we learned that God wants us to grow deep roots in Him, turn away from the things that lead us to sin, and turn towards Him to bring good into this world.
Our retreat pastor was a seminarian, Jesse McCain, who has served as camp pastor for CentriKid in summers past. He stressed the importance of being true to your faith. “Remember this,” he said, “love God more than anything else. Make what you do on the outside reflect what’s on the inside, producing fruit consistent with repentance. We have each been given gifts of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control—God expects and encourages us to use these gifts and share them with others.”
There’s time at reBOOT to play games, relax and just hang out too. It’s awesome to reconnect with the Skycroft staff we’ve come to know so well, to share meals with them and catch up. Snow came on Saturday, making the ground perfect for sledding on make-shift cardboard sleds. The Galilee group hung out in our lodge together, playing cards, Pictionary, and Signs. Or we headed to Hebrew’s Coffee House for ice cream and milkshakes. Karaoke Night always brings a packed house!
It was an incredible weekend and we can’t wait to go back to Skycroft for reCHARGE Summer Camp. The people, the food, the band, the speakers, the games, the lodge – it’s a total package.
It was a great time away, and a great way to reboot.
