Sierra Leone Child Rescue Center (CRC)

Galilee UMC is now a partner church with Floris UMC and four other local churches in sponsoring an orphanage and school, Child Rescue Centre (CRC), in Bo, Sierra Leone. Within the immediate area of the school, there are more than 6,000 people living in crude, temporary housing facilities at internally displaced person camps. More than 400 children from these camps are presently involved in CRC sponsored housing, feeding, and school programs.  The coali! tion of churches is now embarking on developing a medical clinic with a full-time, on-site doctor.  They are also establishing a vocational training center that will offer classes in carpentry, agriculture, sewing, electrical wiring and masonry.

Jubilee Project

United Methodist Church members began Jubilee Project in 1991 for leadership development and community organizing in a poverty stricken area. It has expanded to include many others joining together to help people in the name of Jesus Christ by assisting them in meeting their spiritual, social and physical needs.

The vision of Jubilee Project is to assist in the empowerment of the people of Hancock County, through enhancement of self-worth, abilities and opportunities. We do this as an inclusive, community-based organization initiated and guided by Christian values and relationships.

Jubilee Project is located in Sneedville, TN. The Project serves Hancock County and nearby counties in the East Tennessee mountains near Virginia. It is a rugged, beautiful area with a rich heritage of hard work and mountain culture. The area has the lowest income in TN, less than the national average. One-third of the workers commute to jobs outside Hancock County, and the loss of youth is greater than anywhere else in East Tennessee.

Costa Rican Mission Teams

A four person mission team went to Costa Rica in July of 2006; in July of 2007, a full 16 person team was sent from Galilee.  These were both construction crews, to help build on various church building projects in the city of Alejuela  and the town of Carillos, and as well, a Vacation Bible School was held for the children of the church in Alejuela.

We look forward to a long and fruitful journey with our fellow Methodists in Costa Rica!

Heifer International

The promise of Heifer International from its inception in 1944 is to give people the means to lift themselves and their communities up to self-reliance through gifts of livestock, as well as bees and trees that increase crop production and help to protect the environment...fulfilling their mission to end hunger and save the earth.

Galilee participates in Heifer International via a quarter tube. Each Sunday a tube for the collection of quarters is placed in the gathering area for everyone to get rid of those heavy, worrisome coins! We have purchased a water buffalo, a pig, a sheep, chicks, rabbits...all sorts of livestock, plus bees and trees. The Adult Sunday School class oversees this project.

Volunteer in Mission (VIM)

VIM is people who have stepped out in faith to serve the needs of communities around the world. Common to all is a desire to serve and a willingness to share the gospel as part of a work team, medical team, or as individual volunteers.

Galilee has sent teams to Jamaica, Russia, Jubliee Project, Tennessee and South Carolina.

United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)

Galilee annually celebrates the One Great Hour of Sharing Sunday, making everyone aware of the mission of UMCOR and the tremendous needs that require our on-going response and readiness.

Church World Service

Each year Galilee assembles Kits for Conference. For the past several years we have concentrated our efforts toward Baby (Layette) Kits. Collection begins around Mothers Day and continues until Conference time in mid-June.

Budgeted SupportIn addition to the above mentioned projects, the mission budget also allocates support to Grace Ministries and Christ House.
