Capernaum
Young Life Capernaum gives teens and young adults (age 14-22) with mental and physical disabilities the chance to experience fun and adventure, to develop fulfilling friendships, and to challenge their limits while building self-esteem through club, camp and other exciting activities. Young Life staff and volunteers model Christ’s unconditional love and acceptance as they walk alongside these young adults — filling their lives with love and support. The rewards of reaching out to young people with disabilities are tremendous. By serving, you will experience the joy of helping them grow and experience life to the fullest. You can make the difference in a young person’s life.
Interesting Facts and Figures
- 650 million people in the world have a disability. If that number of people were a nation, it would be the third largest.
- There are 54 million Americans with disabilities and 20% of the teen population has a disability.
- Only 10 to 15% of churches in the United States have a disability ministry or are planning one.
Galilee is excited to announce that we will begin serving as a Capernaum site beginning in Spring 2013. We invite you to join us as we work to grow this ministry that will impact our local community!

Galilee Early Response Team (ERT)
ERT stands for Early Response Team. ERTs are teams of individuals who are trained to respond immediately after disasters. ERTs come in after the first responders (search, rescue and recovery) complete their work, and help stabilize the area after a disaster. Emergency Response Teams are trained and credentialed by UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief). The credentials are recognized by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency), law enforcement agencies, UMCOR and UMVIM (United Methodist Volunteers in Mission).
