Dear Backpack Buddies Supporter:
It’s hard to believe, but our Loudoun County Public School students are back in the classroom! Pencils, pens, and paper are important supplies for students, but when it comes down to it, food is truly the most important school supply.
Over 14,000 students are projected to enroll in the “free and reduced lunch” program administered by the Commonwealth of Virginia. These students are served during the week by lunch programs at school, but there is still need for support for students and families on weekends.
As a supporter of the Backpack Buddies program at Galilee Church, we hope you have seen the results of your past gifts to the program. What started as a weekend meal program for thirty children at one school eleven years ago has grown into support for 500 children at 9 different schools!
Last year, thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, the 2021-2022 Backpack Buddies sponsorship drive raised $18,575. These sponsorships allowed us to facilitate home delivery of over 2,300 family packs and more than 15,000 deliveries of weekend meal packs to food insecure children through school. With inflation as bad as it is, your support is needed this year more than ever.
