The Galilee community enjoyed a beautiful fall morning at Algonkian Park this past Sunday, October 24. We walked in support of UMCOR’s hurricane relief efforts and had a good time together outside in the natural beauty of Northern Virginia.
We had groups walking one mile and two mile trails alongside the Potomac River. Our youngest walkers enjoyed a scavenger hunt along the way and everyone got to enjoy fellowship time with warm cider and muffins.
We even had virtual participants from Winchester, Tysons Corner, and Galilee member Kelly Bower and her son Alex joined us from Fate, Texas! Kelly says, “Walking is a great time to
for a mom be in conversation with a young adult son. We did stop, in advance, at a Czech bakery for kolaches.” :-)
Participants who registered had the option to donate to UMCOR, so this event raised over $1000 for hurricane relief. We’re adding that to the $2,270 that we sent to UMCOR for help with natural disasters in September.
Pastor Geitra was at the walk. “I think those that came really enjoyed it,” she noted. “It was very casual, and a really nice meet-up with pets and people. Kids played football and corn hole, and the dogs caroused a bit. It felt like a family gathering. What a blessing to build our community up while helping others.”
