I was at Lidl on Tuesday morning buying a *crazy* amount of cereal for our Backpack Buddies winter break distribution. CC saw me, stopped me in the parking lot, and asked me if I was donating it to a food bank. I had the chance to tell him about Backpack Buddies.

 

He told me to lock up my car and follow him back in the store…..where he paid for a whole another cartload of cereal.

 

After loading that up, CC took my business card and asked what we needed most right now (it’s juice boxes if you want to know ). Half an hour later, I get a phone call from one of the Galilee staff saying,  “your guy from Lidl is in the parking lot.” CC and his wife Jennifer had gone to Sams Club, loaded up on food and showed up at the Galilee pantry.

 

We talked for awhile about the program, food insecurity, and the exhaustion of the Covid shutdowns. Turns out, CC is a ridiculously humble and generous guy and he and Jennifer have huge hearts for feeding those in need.

 

The absolute kicker? THEY DON’T LIVE HERE. CC and Jennifer are from West Virginia and stopped at Lidl to pick up one thing on their 150 mile journey home. They ran into me by accident, but acting just like angels among us, they decided to make a difference for the 465 kids we serve each week.

 

This isn’t how I thought my Tuesday was going to go, but it’s the best way it could have gone!
