Put a Smile in a Backpack

It’s back to school time. You may have heard that free school meals for all children have been extended through this school year. This is an amazing help to families who need support, but it is just during the school week – not on the weekends. That’s where Galilee’s Backpack Buddies ministry comes in.

For the last ten years, we have provided weekend meal packs to students in Loudoun County Public Schools, growing to be the largest weekend meal feeding program outside of those run by local food pantries. 

I’m proud to say that since the school shutdown in March 2020, our program has not missed a week of getting food to families in need. And friends – that is because of you. Because of those of you who have faithfully supported the program with your food donations and financial gifts. Because of those of you who have prayed for the growth and protection of this ministry. Because of those of you who have nurtured the relationships that have led to our partnerships that allow us to sustain the program today. 

I know that Galilee is a church that cares about children in our community, so we’re inviting you to join us for our fall sponsorship campaign: Put a Smile in a Backpack.

$225 covers the cost for one student for the entire school year

$113 covers the cost for one student for one semester

Your donation will help us to cover the costs for the Backpack Buddies ministry for this school year, during which we will distribute weekend meal packs at seven schools to serve about 400 students.

Join our Backpack Buddies volunteers and be part of a winning team, doing good in the community.

Our volunteer team meets on September 14 to plan for the year and anyone is invited. Coming to a meeting doesn’t mean you are committing to anything. It is a great way to learn about how BPB operates and who is involved. Contact me if you are interested.
