Backpack Buddies updates:

End Weekend Hunger:  Feeding Students, Growing Minds, this year’s Backpack Buddies sponsorship campaign, has raised $20,784. That’s more than last year, which is awesome.

These sponsorships allow us to deliver more than 15,000 weekend meal packs to food insecure children through school.

The support we receive from generous donors is what keeps Backpack Buddies running. We are honored and humbled that so many of you have supported us over the last eleven years – thank you for your generosity!

With gratitude,
The Backpack Buddies Team at Galilee Church

2022/2023 Community Packing Schedule

Over 14,000 children in Loudoun County are food insecure. What does this mean?  That they may not know where their next meal is coming from. As the wealthiest county in the United States we find this statistic troubling and unfathomable.

Our story began in January 2011 when we learned that teachers at a local school were reporting their students had little to eat at home over the weekend and holiday breaks. We quickly responded to this need by launching the Backpack Buddies Program, which  provides weekend and holiday meal packs to Loudoun County students receiving free or reduced-price school meals. Each year, our volunteers pack and distribute over 15,000 meal packs to our six partner schools.

But we know that we cannot do this alone.  We are fortunate to live in a community that cares so deeply for the children in our own neighborhood.  We invite you to join us in our efforts to ensure that every child has nutritious meals when school is not in session.
