Born on February 21, 1935, in Jonesville, Virginia.

William was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a self-made man in every sense of the word. He put himself through Virginia Tech, where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. A few years later he started school part-time culminating in receiving his MBA from Johns Hopkins University. In his 70s he again went back to school to receive a BA in History from the UMGC (University of Maryland Global Campus).

He was hired by the ‘then’ Bell Telephone Company right out of school, where he worked for 35 years before taking an early retirement from what would become Verizon. A few years later he took a position at the US Weather Service where he was in charge of their datacenter facilities, working for 20 years before retiring.

William was the very definition of a devoted husband to his wife Nancy for 66 years. Stayed by her side every day of her life, putting her needs first.

Ever an avid reader, he could often be found visiting the library each weekend, always eager to learn something new. He held a deep belief in the value of education and was committed to ensuring that all of his children and grandchildren had the opportunity to attend college or trade school, a goal he proudly supported.

He is survived by his sons Drew Daniel Johnson and Russell Philip Johnson. He will be so sorely missed.

The family received friends on Tuesday, April 21 at Adams-Green Funeral Home, where funeral services were held with Pastor Mike Plasters officiating. Graveside services were held on Wednesday, April 22 at Lawn Croft Cemetery, Linwood, PA.
