The 2025 Confirmation class included eleven students paired with eleven adult mentors. Together, they learned about Methodist beliefs and what it means to live as a Christian.
They covered topics including the Holy Spirit, how to read the Bible, and how to follow Jesus. The class took a field trip to Leesburg UMC and visited the historic Old Stone Church, among other great activities.
The Confirmation ceremony took place during 10am worship on Sunday, April 27. At that ceremony, confirmands made their confession of faith, promised to live according to their beliefs, and officially joined Galilee as full adult members.

United Methodists use the term “confirmation” to mark the first time a baptized Christian publicly “confirms” their intention to live the vows of the baptismal and membership covenant and so becomes a professing member of the church. When a baby is baptized the family and church are speaking on the child’s behalf. Confirmation is when the young person, with their family’s support, speak for themselves.
To ensure our teens have the knowledge to understand this profession they are making, we run a series of Confirmation classes that cover topics like the history of the Methodist church, Christian sacraments, discipleship, and grace, Confirmands pick a trusted adult to be their mentor through the process. If they do not know who to ask we can help match them with a mentor. The mentor participates in various activities and then stands with them and their families on the day of Confirmation.
