Last Sunday, Galilee had the distinct pleasure of lifting up one of our own when we held a reception for Jordan Markwood, our choir director and the newly-minted Washington Post Teacher of the Year (for his work as arts director at Rock Ridge High School).

If you know Jordan, you know he is a man of great talent and few words. But he did give a brief speech in which he spoke not so much about himself as about God, his students, and the church. Jordan received this accolade because he uses his talents for the glory of God. Whether he is helping to shape lives by treating each student with equal respect and love, or going on mission trips to be the hands and feet of Jesus, or by improving how worship sounds at Galilee with his tireless efforts, Jordan is a man of faith who finds strength and accomplishment in selfless giving.

We are so proud to have Jordan at Galilee. As he has told us, he’s not interested in merely “working at a church.” He’s a member of this church. This is his church. We thank him for serving all of us by sharing the talents that God has blessed him with in abundance.
