My name is Jason Duley – it’s great to meet you!
Let me tell you what I believe. I believe the best life is one that’s got meaning. I believe that God has given every person an extraordinary purpose.
There was a time when I was living less purposefully, following my own agenda. I worked as a professional musician and also in the computer field. Great times—but God called me into ministry in order to serve the needs of others. And guess what? Serving God and helping people has become the most fulfilling life I can imagine.
As a pastor of an active church, I get energy out of helping people connect with God, with one another, and with their life’s purpose.
Geitra Mickelson is an Ohio native who comes to our church with a background in music, education, and theater. Active in church throughout her life, Geitra responded to the call to ministry here in Virginia, where she has lived since 2001.
“I responded to a call when God’s love convicted my heart. I’m eager to share that love with a hurt and broken world. Jesus has made all the difference in my life, and I believe he can make a difference in yours—no matter what!”
“My goal is to work alongside others who are passionately committed to helping those in need.”
Geitra serves in Galilee’s main campus ministries and at the Chapel at Lansdowne Woods. She is pursuing the completion of her Masters of Divinity at Wesley Theological Seminary.
Galilee is happy to announce the arrival of Steve Hall as an Associate Pastor with a focus on the congregation at the Chapel at Lansdowne Woods. Steve and his wife Brenda joined the church ranks beginning July 1, 2020.
While Steve and Brenda are “new” to Galilee, there’s already a considerable connection. Just like Pastor Geitra, Steve received his call to ministry while a member of Sterling United Methodist Church down the road from us. Additionally, Steve’s step-daughter Brietta Miller is on staff as the director of our Bell Choir. Finally, Steve’s father Homer Hall was the senior pastor at Galilee from 1975 to 1985.
Kathy Butler is a life-long Methodist who was raised in Roanoke, VA. She graduated with a B.S. degree in Accounting from the University of Virginia, and she has been a licensed Certified Public Accountant for 35 years. Her previous career experience includes working as an auditor for Ernst & Young and as an Assistant Vice President with Mellon Bank Corporation. She found her home on the staff at Galilee in 2000 after having volunteered in the church office for several years. Kathy is responsible for the church’s accounting, contracting, and financial reporting. She also maintains the congregation’s giving records. She works closely with the dedicated volunteers on the Galilee Finance Committee and the Counting Team.
Outside the office, Kathy enjoys sharing her faith by singing with the Galilee choir. She also enjoys cooking, reading, traveling with friends, watching old movies, and taking day trips to historical sites around Virginia. She has a grown son, Joseph, and daughter-in-law Kathy.
YOUTH MINISTRY COORDINATOR
Lisa and her family have been attending Galilee since the late 1990s. She grew up in Hamilton in western Loudoun County and graduated from Loudoun Valley High School.
“In high school, my church Youth Group was my social network,” says Lisa. “That set me up for looking for similar experiences in college at Mary Washington, where I got involved in campus ministries eventually taking leadership roles. That’s the path I want to mark out for our Galilee kids…a way of taking their faith forward into whatever life holds for them.”
Lisa’s background is in corporate training leadership. She and her husband Rodney have two kids, Erica and Brian.
Jennifer works alongside our Business Manager to assist in the smooth operation of all of Galilee’s office tasks. Jennifer also creates the worship digital visuals and slides for lyrics in our livestream worship services. Her most challenging work, of course, is her role as the spouse of our Senior Pastor.
Tordis Fahringer grew up in New Jersey and began studying classical piano when she was five and a half. Her first organist position was at the age of 13 at a small Lutheran church in New Jersey. Tordis earned her BA in Music from Douglass College at Rutgers University.
Tordis moved to Virginia in 1988. Since 1999, she held organist/accompanist positions at two Lutheran churches before joining the staff at Galilee in November 2016. She has been the keyboard artist for the Reston Chorale since 2004, and prior to that was the accompanist for the Master Singers of Virginia for nine years. Tordis accompanies local school choral concerts, and works with instrumentalists and vocalists to prepare for auditions, recitals, competitions, and recordings. She also teaches piano privately to students of all ages.
Tordis and her husband Bob live in Sterling with their two cats Chloe and Maude. They have two grown children, Marc and Alyssa.
CHILDREN'S MINISTRY COORDINATOR
Galilee welcomes Suzie Leftwich to our Family Ministry team. It’s not easy reinventing Family Ministry in the midst of a pandemic, but Suzie has been innovative, effective, and caring. If you have have any questions about resources for school age kids, email Suzie.
DIRECTOR OF SERVE MINISTRIES
Rebecca Makowski grew up in Sterling and has been a member of Galilee for the majority of her life. Her first volunteer position was at Vacation Bible School and Rebecca likes to think that she has incorporated service to the Lord in every facet of her life since then. She’s humbled to be in the position now to help others serve, having joined the Galilee staff in 2012. Rebecca holds degrees in Public Health from James Madison University and George Washington University.
Rebecca and her husband, Chris, live in Ashburn along with their four sons – Luke, Jack, Grant, and Colin. They enjoy being outside, playing at the park, swimming, and camping, and they probably own enough books to open a small library. Rebecca can usually be found worshiping on Sunday mornings at the 11am service (in the back row!), dancing along as the choir sings.
DIRECTOR OF MUSIC MINISTRY
Jordan was born in Winchester, VA as the youngest of five children. His father’s parents were missionaries in Cuba for 19 years and Haiti for 28, so the missionary impulse runs in his blood. He attended Houghton College in New York for music education and earned a Masters degree at Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton, NJ. After school, he returned to Winchester and began working for Loudoun County Public Schools. He taught chorus at Stone Hill Middle School for seven years before moving to Rock Ridge High School in 2014, where he currently serves as Fine Arts Department Chair and teaches choir and musical theater.
He was the Worship Arts Coordinator at Round Hill UMC for seven years and directed the women’s barbershop group within the Shenandoah Valley Chorus for six years.
When he’s not in church or school, Jordan’s got a third job working part-time at Zephaniah Farm Vineyard. For hobbies, Jordan likes tennis, volleyball, bowling, frisbee golf, soccer, and checking out scenic trails.
Brietta Miller has lived most of her life in Sterling, VA. She is a graduate of Park View High School and George Mason University with a BSEd in Health and Physical Education. Music has always been a part of her life. She got involved with handbells 19 years ago and has been a director for children and adult handbell and handchime choirs. She loves using music as a way to worship God, whether during church services, concerts, or rehearsals.
She and her husband, Jonathan, were married in 2015. Together they have a blended family of two boys and two girls (Michael, Dawn, Tyler, and Kimberly) and a cat (Sadie). You can find her at Sunday services, where you might see her practicing American Sign Language to the music or having a casual conversation with her son, Tyler. She loves to stay active with soccer, walking, and snow skiing. Yes, she loves the snow and the beach!
Chris Smith’s background is in editing and book publishing. He got involved at Galilee when he was “voluntold” to help at Vacation Bible School. Chris edits and creates content for all our media. He’s the most normal guy you’ll ever meet, except he likes soccer. And recently got into cricket.
A voracious reader, Chris loves the small group, Galilee Book Club.
DIRECTOR, GALILEE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
Amy holds a Bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech and a Master’s degree from Hood College in Curriculum and Instruction. She has been teaching for as long as she can remember, starting with making her little brother “play” school and working up to being her mother’s assistant when she was teaching VBS. Her passion is teaching reading and literacy skills to young children, since reading is the key to unlocking the world.
Amy lives in Sterling, VA with her husband, Josh, and their daughter, Catherine. She enjoys reading, scrapbooking, and just about any arts and crafts activity, especially when her favorite helper, Catherine, is involved. Amy is an avid Virginia Tech fan and enjoys attending Washington Nationals games with her family.
Galilee is lead by teams of ordinary people, volunteers that support our ministry and mission.
