“Costa Rica has been a major part of my faith journey through my participation in 2017, 2018, 2019, and now in 2023. Every trip is unique and every group is special in its own way, but I truly feel this year’s group was extraordinary. The teamwork was evident by the attitude of each individual member, and resulted in accomplishments beyond all expectations.
But perhaps more notable is that we continued to build our relationship with our Costa Rican family, and to build bonds in Christ with each other. This is a special connection that only those who have experienced it can truly understand.
One major void this year was the absence of our friend Michael “Miguel” Butler, which was difficult for several of us. However, the memorial ceremony we held to scatter his ashes on Butterfly Hill was so special, especially knowing that a part of Michael will always be there.
