It is the season of Advent, when we celebrate the coming of Christ, who we call the Light of the World. In his message on Sunday, Pastor Jason spoke of how necessary that light is in a dark world, and he gave us a mission to extend the light to others through the simple means of encouragement.
This is what Jason asked us to do:
“What if this December, what if starting right now, every one of us chose one person as a focal relationship for this month…what if you found one person in your neighborhood, work or friends network who just needed some encouragement?”
That’s our “secret mission” for the month of December, Galilee. Find one person in your life who needs a little extra encouragement and be a light in their world. Pray for them, send them a card, take them to coffee, whatever you can do to make a small difference in their life for the positive. Encouraging others, as Jason says, is a moral action and compassionate gift. Focusing our positive attention on others is showing the spirit of the Wonderful Counselor who illuminates our lives.
The pastor’s ask, that we find one person to focus encouragement on, was reiterated at Tuesday night’s Fellowship Supper, where the theme was the spiritual gift of encouragement.
We had a fine time of fellowship over a spaghetti dinner, then gathered in a circle to pull Christmas crackers (hence the paper hats in the photos below). Finally, we closed the evening with coffee, cocoa, and a Christmas cookie exchange.
