Galilee Gift Garden |

Galilee’s Gift Garden, returns in 2022 for our fifth year.

The Galilee Gift Garden was created to grow good, fresh food—“feeding hope into lives” by supplying fresh vegetables for local food banks. The space is used to grow swiss chard, peppers, yellow squash, zucchini, tomatoes and more.

Galilee members Vini and Jane Short created and manage this garden through their 501(c)(3) nonprofit, DeShong’s Gift Back. They and their volunteers do amazing work here, as well as at Forrest’s Gift Garden at Sterling UMC. The produce of these gardens goes to four area food banks and will help supply over 1,000 families with fresh vegetables every season. Vini and his team pick and deliver vegetables every week all summer.

Vini forecasts the season’s work as beginning like this: ,

“Now spring has found it’s way back to us and feeding the people has never been so important.

Fresh blended soil to be delivered to Galilee Gift Garden in April and Forrest’s Gift Garden in the beginning of May.

Planting seeds in April and plants in May.

We will need help weeding, watering and harvesting.

We will need funds to pay for the soil, materials and helping with folks bills and groceries.

Many will be in need, help us help them.”

You can help! There is always more work than there are volunteers. Check out the DeShong’s Gift Back website or call Vini at 703-314-9296 to volunteer.
