Giving in Gratitude

November 2, 2023

Galilee’s Backpack Buddies ministry has signed on to a special mission: helping feed families over the Thanksgiving school break. Our Loudoun County Public School liaisons have assessed the need at 275 Family Break Bags…and you can help us make this happen.

You won’t be alone! Many hands are contributing to this generous mission.

We already collected over a hundred boxes of cereal at our late September WGTS Sticker Stop. On November 11, the Boy Scouts will bring cans and prepared food items to our church doorstep through their Scouting for Food event. At the same time, Lay Leader Jen Shah is spearheading a food drive with Keller Williams Realty. Plus Harris Teeter has generously donated reusable bags for us to pack the food in.

We are asking the congregation to assist us with food donations. Galilee volunteer Kathi Miller and others will hand out grocery bags on Sunday, November 5 which we’d like filled with these items:

  • 1 large cereal
  • 1 large can of chicken
  • 1 can tomato-based product (sauce, diced tomatoes, etc)
  • 2 cans vegetables
  • 1 can fruit
  • 1 small jar peanut butter
  • 1 pound dry pasta
  • 1 pound white rice
  • 1 pound/can beans

We ask that donations be returned Sunday, November 12 and we will assemble Family Break Bags on Monday, November 13 at 9am-12 noon—email Serve Director Felicia Johnson if you’d like to help with this assembly.

We give out of gratitude for the many ways that God has blessed us. The bags we give these families will help supplement their  nutrition over the holiday. Our great consolation is knowing that when we eat over the holiday, we have blessed others to eat as well.

Thanks for everyone coming together to support this worthy cause.
