Giving Odyssey

Felicia Johnson, Galilee’s Director of Serve Ministries, oversees our Backpack Buddies food program. She recently received a check and a letter from the Logan family, explaining how they sold their 2005 Honda Odyssey and wanted the money generated by the sale to help others. It’s a cute story!

Dear Felicia and the Backpack Buddies Team,

We would like to present this check to Galilee’s Backpack Buddies program. We just recently parted ways with our beloved family minivan. It’s amazing how a vehicle can become a part of the family, especially when you have one for 18 years!

When I sat down to think about what this van was a part of over the last 18 years, it’s hard to not get sentimental. Our plan was to donate it to a program in hopes it could still be used. But it did not meet the qualifications for these programs. So, we decided to sell it and donate the money to Backpack Buddies, knowing it will be used well.

A tribute to our 2005 Honda Odyssey

  • A part of the family for 18 years
  • Was our family vehicle for the first 8 years, and then became the boys vehicle for the next 10
  • A loyal companion for our 4BZBOYZ
  • Carpooling; family trips; sweaty boys; turf beads; camping trips
  • Squabbles; loud music; singing; car games; countless trips to the grocery store; drives to practices, games, matches, and meets
  • Michael’s toe stuck in the zipper on the back of the seat; a bit of car sickness here and there; anxious drives to the pediatrician or the ER
  • Car seats; booster seats; spilled sour milk in the car seats; naps; dogs
  • 4 teenage drivers; friends; proms; homecomings; more turf beads; college move ins; smelly cleats
  • A few fender benders; one speeding ticket; mishaps pulling into the garage; and much love, laughter, and fun times
  • Although held together with duct tape and screws in a few places, she was still solid, and reliable
  • She was donated today – still giving right to the very end!

 

Thanks, Logan family! We promise to put 4BZBOYZ’s money to good use feeding 400+ hungry students in six Loudoun County schools through Backpack Buddies.

If you you want to help out Backpack Buddies like the Logan family, we could use it! Inflation is biting and food prices are high. It costs $300 to feed a child for the school year or about $2,200 to pay for the food program for one week. We’d love it if you’d consider sponsoring a week ($2,200) or a child ($300). Of course, we’ll gladly accept any amount—you can mail a check or drop by our office (put Backpack Buddies in the notes) or give online and select Backpack Buddies from the fund menu.

Beginning Sept 5, these suppers will be on the first Tuesday of the month at 5pm. Each event will feature good food (courtesy of the Logans) and a fun activity.
