How important is a roof? You may as well ask, how important is a church? Rain happens. Wind happens. If our church facility is not prepared for dark and stormy days as well as bright and sunny ones, the church will not stand! 

 

The good news is that Galilee is getting a new roof. If you visit in the next two or three weeks, you’ll see a lot of work going on—but don’t worry, the roofers don’t work on Sunday! The even better news is that the work is being paid for by insurance, so we don’t have to ask for more donations from our generous congregation. We still thank you, because your gifts pay for that insurance. 

 

The work is being done by a local company, Augustine Roofing (which might be a God thing, since the philosopher Augustine is a church father and one of the most famous saints of all time). Bill Augustine, the owner, was instrumental in helping to document existing roof damage to obtain a fair insurance adjustment payout. Initially the insurance wanted to give us a tenth of the $360,000 they eventually sent. Our thanks goes to the Galilee trustees, including the leader on the roof team, Jim Cox, who reviewed the scope of the work and the contract with Augustine.
