“I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.” John 15:11
There is a common mistake made in church. We can think that because we possess a truth about our Savior that is real, and eternal, and urgent, that we therefore must stand in judgement of the world around us, must be strict teachers with our every word, and must conduct ourselves as good, sober, serious, boring, party-poopers. That couldn’t be more wrong! We don’t win our battles through self-righteousness. We don’t win souls to Christ by being dull. Instead, God wants us to carry joy into the streets—the joy that Christ came to give us!

We believe that before Christ comes into our lives, we don’t know real joy. We are like the water jars in a Gospel tale: empty, dry vessels waiting to be filled with something, anything. Then Jesus touches us and we are filled, transformed, and finally put to good use. Put to real use, bringing the joy of Christ’s transforming power to other lives.
Our Christ is the Christ of weddings, of Beatitudes, and Resurrection. He is the friend at supper, the healer, the bringer of joy. He wants us to be shot through with love and wonder, to be like little children again, children of God.
“At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, ‘I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.’” – Luke 10:21
