Last fall, Pastor Beth led a very popular class on Mark. Now she’s back with an exciting dive into another gospel.
From its first words, the Gospel of John stands out as being a very different kind of gospel. Rather than telling the nativity story or going into Jesus’s ancestry, we start at the dawn of Creation:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
As it continues, this gospel’s use of symbolism and imagistic language make John’s portrayal of the life of Jesus the most philosophically complex account of our Savior in scripture and a challenge to understand. Through outside reading and in-class discussion, Pastor Beth will lead the class through some of the major themes within the text. No previous bible study is required, we’re going to explore this book together.
