We collected OVER A TON of canned food at our Can Castle Competition on April 24. That’s food that is going to help feed Loudoun families in the coming months, when school feeding programs are largely on hiatus.

Can castle-building contestants were organized into teams that had just thirty minutes to build a structure in a ten-by-ten space in the Galilee gymnasium. The winners were:

• Tallest structure: Team To the Moon!
• Most Creative: Luke’s Team
• Most Castle-like: The Squire Squad
• Honorable mention for Best Soldiers (Castle Crafters), Best Moat (Kayden’s Team) and Coolest (Castle Dominators)

Our judges were Matt and Kathi Miller, who also coordinated delivery of the canned donations to Loudoun Hunger Relief. 

The Can Castle Competition was organized by Youth Ministry, led by Lisa Collins. Lisa said, “The kids challenged all our small groups at Galilee to form a team. It was really fun to see the teams work together to see how creative they could be. We had teams that had obviously thought through what would work structurally and we had a teams (I’m looking at you, Galilee Book Club) who made it up as they went along. There were lots of laughs and good fun, all for a great cause.”
