Partners in Purpose

At Galilee, we believe in shared ministry. That’s ordinary lay people and clergy working together to spread God’s love in the community. We work to strengthen the bonds of neighborliness and give voice to the good news of our God and savior.
 
At Charge Conference on November 29 this year, all three of our pastors gave reports on how they view their areas of ministry at Galilee. We thought you might like to hear some of what they said.

“During Covid last year, I wrote that God will sustain our church, that we are staying connected and will remain strong. That statement of faith remains true—God continues to strengthen us in a season of reopening.”
 
“I am grateful for each and every person who attends our church in person now that we are worshipping in the sanctuary again, those who remain with us online, and for our strong and growing ministry at the Ashby Ponds campus and the Lansdowne Woods community.”
 
“I am grateful to serve as your partner in ministry.”

“Sharing the extraordinary purpose of this church meant new community initiatives this year. This includes our Walk for Hurricane Relief at Algonkian Park which raised $1000 for UMCOR, as well as the Love + Serve + Give event to celebrate Galilee’s 61st birthday.”
 
“Doing ministry at Galilee means being blessed to work with multiple age groups. With Suzie Leftwich, our Children’s Ministry Coordinator, I led a 7-week introduction to the Bible for 3rd graders. Then, alongside Youth Ministry Coordinator Lisa Collins, I helped lead the Confirmation program for young people taking that next step in faith.”

“It is truly a blessing and a privilege to serve as one of Galilee’s pastors. I am now entering my sixth year serving Galilee. The ministry of the church has been ever-changing, especially throughout the past year, and we have adjusted to accommodate the needs of our congregation and community.”

“This is my second year serving as Associate Pastor for the Chapel at Lansdowne Woods, and only on October 3 did we start having in-person worship services. Due to Covid, not everyone has returned yet but the services have been great. We are averaging 60 people per Sunday. We have our own choir who are leading music and we have a good number of volunteer liturgists, ushers, and set-up crew.”
 
“For an older group, fellowship is critical to well-being. With the support of Galilee, we are moving forward to get this vital congregation back on its feet! The Chapel motto is coming alive: Glorifying God in Worship, Service, Fellowship, and Love.”
