Galilee Christian School is excited to announce the preschool is reopening on March 1.

Amy Utterback, the director of the preschool, says, “Our staff has already begun planning for students to return to the classroom and we literally cannot wait until March 1. We will host a virtual open house on Friday, February 26 at 6pm to share information about the first day of school and to meet the teachers.”

While this is a big step for the school, which has been closed since the public schools shut down on March 11 last year, it is the product of careful planning. A full safety protocol has been developed by the director, which won the approval of our church’s very careful Healthy Church Team. There will be two classes a week to begin with, held Monday-Wednesday-Friday with thorough cleaning done on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Classes will be limited to twelve students. All teachers have been vaccinated.

While there have been some in-person small groups meeting at church and we’ve never stopped allowing teams into our sanctuary to prepare livestream worship, the opening of the school is our first cautious step towards doing things the way we used to. 

It makes sense for our preschool to be one of the first activities that returns to almost normal at Galilee. Studies show that young children are not frequently transmitters of Covid-19 and that cases in schools are seldom the cause of further community spread.

Assuming that everything works out well at preschool and in our wider community environment, we hope to offer more in-person events, too, like outdoor worship. There is already an in-person Youth Event scheduled for 3/14: the Pi Day Social.
