Galilee’s eighth annual Mission Fund Rummage Sale was held this weekend. We welcomed more than 200 families through the gym doors on Saturday and Sunday and raised over $14,000 in support of the church’s mission efforts. That’s more than last year’s total. The sale was a vibrant display of generosity, service, and community spirit.

Proceeds from the sale go to Galilee’s Mission Fund, which helps offset the cost of mission trips in the U.S. and abroad. This year, the funds will support the Summer Venture team of youth missioners traveling to rural Franklin County, VA, as well as the church’s international mission team. In a recent change of plans, the international group will now serve in the Dominican Republic, pivoting from their original destination of Costa Rica. They will be joined by choir director Jordan Markwood, who has been doing mission work in the Dominican Republic for years.

An important component of each year’s Rummage Sale is our partnership with Help 4 Our Children, a local nonprofit. Community members connected to Galilee’s Backpack Buddies schools are able to shop with cash vouchers provided by Help 4 Our Children, making essential items more accessible to families in need. We can’t thank Help 4 Our Children enough for their generosity in this regard.

“I’m grateful for all the wonderful people who donated treasures or gave of their time, gifts, energy, and love to welcome the community into our church home,” said Galilee’s lay leader Jen Shah on Sunday. Jen led a robust team of rummage volunteers who worked hard beginning on Wednesday to make the sale possible.

Galilee members who donated their used treasures now have more room in their living spaces. The church mission teams have more resources with which to travel and serve. And some of our neighbors have acquired clothes, books, bikes, toys, kitchen items, and household goods at affordable prices. It’s three blessings in one.
