Teaming Up with Scouts

November 14, 2019

Every November, area scouts participate in a two-weekend donation drive called “Scouting for Food.” On the first Saturday of the month, they leave notes and bags on doors requesting donations for area food banks. On the next Saturday, they go door-to-door to pick up the food.

This year Galilee volunteers partnered with Cub Scout Pack 1483 (Ashburn), Cub Scout Pack 956 (Sterling) and Boy Scout Troop 956 (Sterling) with our own mission: to glean items for Backpack Buddies from the enormous amount of food brought in.

It was cold! So we owe a big thank you to the volunteers who shivered while they worked at three different sites to glean food needed for hungry students at local schools.

The yield was about 3,000 items that will go directly to Backpack Buddies. The bulk of the food, hundreds of pounds of it, was helped along to pantries at Messiah’s Market and LINK.

Galilee welcomes any chance to go out in the community to share our message of Christ’s love in service, and Scouting for Food was a great opportunity to partner with our scouting friends. Several scout organizations meet in our church facility every week.

In the words of our Director of Serve Ministries, Rebecca Makowski, Galilee is, “Super appreciative that they allow us to come and do this each year!”
