Last week wasn’t just our amazing Vacation Bible School (which WAS amazing; our campers collected over 475 pounds of food and supply  donations for Loudoun Hunger Relief), it was also the week of Summer Serve. Summer Serve is the summer’s premier volunteer opportunity for middle schoolers at Galilee. These teens and tweens didn’t just hang around the church, they went out into the community to help others.

It was a busy week. Campers enjoyed plenty of fellowship time and had fun, but the focus was on doing for others and so our Summer Servers helped out in lots of ways.

• They visited Mobile Hope in Leesburg on multiple days, sorting and distributing donated goods in support of homeless youth. They worked both at Mobile Hope HQ and took the Mobile Hope bus out to the wider community.
• They made snacks and sandwiches for an area shelter.
• They sewed warming blankets for Project Linus, which helps children who who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need.

Summer isn’t over and neither is our focus on service! This week, we have a team of youth doing a sleepover camp on the Eastern Shore, where they are helping glean food with a Methodist ministry that serves the food insecure. We’ll report on that soon.
