In our worship series called “Community” last month, our pastors spoke about God’s purpose in bringing people together. He uses us to support one another as “one body” with different gifts and talents, but shared faith and generosity.
During that series, we made a commitment as a church that shares ministry among staff, volunteers, and the congregation that we would create opportunities to build community intentionally with the goal of always helping others. We want everyone to take part!
We’re happy, therefore, to announce Galilee’s October community-building opportunity, the “Galilee Walk for Hurricane Relief.”
After church on Sunday, October 24, join your Galilee community to raise funds for hurricane relief efforts while enjoying a walk in Algonkian Park. We’re going to meet up at Shelter 2 located at 47001 Fairway Drive, Sterling, VA.
Check in starts at 10:45am, with event start at 11:00am.
There will be multiple trails to choose from that vary in length and difficulty. A scavenger hunt is available to do along the way. Then, return for refreshments. The shelter is reserved until 3pm so you are welcome to bring a lunch to enjoy after the walk.
Pastor Geitra says, “We’ll be outside. Algonkian Park is a beautiful spot along the Potomac and there will be plenty of friends to stay and talk with. We think it will be a great way to spend a lovely fall day.”

Recommended donation is $10 per person or $30 per family. You can donate when you register.
Funds will support the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), which is currently helping victims of Hurricane Ida and other recent natural disasters.
“There’s an energy when we’re in community,” explains Pastor Jason. “Whether it is face-to-face or from far away, God knows it when we are in intentional community. And people feel it.”
