Confirmation is a ceremony that officially welcomes a person into the Church. Over the centuries, it has been a time in an adolescent Christian’s life when they are challenged to strengthen the roots of their faith and take ownership of their relationship with God. They do this by considering the Christian faith critically and determining if they would like to reaffirm their baptismal covenant–making the choice of allegiance to Christ and His Church–with the result of continued growth toward Christian maturity.
At Galilee, we prepare youth (usually seventh graders, but open to all youth) for Confirmation beginning in the winter, and celebrate their commitment in the spring.
Confirmation classes will be after the second service until 1:30 pm on Jan 31; Feb 7, 14, 28; Mar 6, 13; Apr 3, 10, 17. There will be an overnight at the Halls’ on February 19-20.
Confirmation Sunday will be on April 24 at the 9:00 am service with a reception following during the Grow Hour.
Every confirmand should select a mature Christian they know to serve as a mentor with whom they will meet three times during the confirmation process outside of class.
Mentors and parents should plan to attend class on January 31.
